Plasmodium vivax in thin film with developing trophozite. The amoeboid form in the enlarged, pale red cell with Schuffner's dots and some scattered yellow brown pigment is characteristic of P.vivax. The infected red cell is often distorted, enlarging up to 11 microns, angular and pressed against other red cells. These larger trophozoites appear about 24 hours after paroxysm, while at paroxysm (ie. during the cold shivering 15 mins to 1 hour, followed by hot fever 2-6 hours followed by sweating 2-4 hours symptoms), rings and schizonts are generally present.
